UCLA Outpatient Surgery Center and Oncology Center is an award-winning project, located in Santa Monica, CA. Utron retrofitted an existing automated garage, previously-built by others. The retrofitted automated parking system is fully operational.
Challenge
Retrofitting this building with an automated parking system posed significant challenges for Utron. Major structural adaptations were necessary, such as adjusting shuttle aisles to support the calculated weights and cutting concrete for entry and exit bays equipped with lifts to reinforce the structure. The complexity increased because the building remained fully operational, housing medical patients who required extra care. Utron minimized disruptions to the building’s operations throughout the installation process.
Solution
In this project, Utron introduced enhancements to its field-proven Pace system. Key improvements included the use of lift-bays, which allow vehicles to be parked and retrieved directly from different levels.
Newly designed rails at the parking positions increased operational speed and system reliability while reducing complexity. The new shuttle design accommodates low-ground-clearance vehicles. Additionally, Utron implemented an advanced guidance system to enhance the driver parking experience in the bay rooms.
Technology
Utron Pace is a Shuttle Automated Parking solution, also referred to as “Rack and Rail” parking system. The system is based on shuttles performing single path horizontal movement along fixed rails and storing vehicles on racks located perpendicular to both sides of the fixed rails.
