Challenge

In the redevelopment of One Post Office Square in Boston’s Financial District, optimizing parking space within the iconic 41-story tower posed significant challenges. The project aimed to reduce the garage capacity from 335 to 235 parking spaces, accommodate this within approximately half the volume of the original garage, and repurpose over 80,000 square feet of usable area, including an additional 25,000 square feet at the upper volume of the garage for leasable space.

Solution

Utron addressed these challenges by implementing its advanced Slide System, creating Boston’s first downtown automated parking garage. This system features six parking floors, 256 conveyors, 235 parking spaces, and 24 EV charging locations. The technology allows users to park and retrieve their vehicles via smartphones or kiosks using the Utron Smart system, enhancing efficiency and user experience. This innovative solution optimized parking space and freed up substantial usable area, contributing to the building’s luxurious redevelopment.

Technology

Utron Slide is a Conveyor Automated Parking solution, also referred to as “Matrix” parking system. The system is composed of stationary conveyors performing multi-dimensional movements of vehicles stored on pallets, on a single/multi-level structure.

Vehicles are stored on pallets on top of the conveyors yielding very high square-footage efficiency and fast parking and retrieval cycles.
